Junior Livestock Show
Youth from all across West Virginia are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Annual Junior Livestock Show. Participants must be current members of a West Virginia 4-H or FFA organization.
Each year the State Fair of West Virginia hosts hundreds of FFA and 4-H members from around the state as they proudly show their market animals. Participating members then sell their market animals through the Annual Youth Livestock Sale. Business men and women, family members and community supporters come together in support of West Virginia youth by purchasing their animals. Thank you for your support!
Draft Horse Shows & Pulls
The State Fair of West Virginia is proud to offer several different draft horse events; including the Draft Horse Pull. If you’ve never witnessed a Draft Horse Pull, make time during the 2011 State Fair to watch these magnificent animals. Using a solid bottomed sled for pulling, teams of horses will start with a minimum pulling weight of 3000 pounds. The sled and weights must be pulled a minimum of 27 1/2 feet, in one pull, to qualify and continue in the competition. Weight is increased for the second pull and for each succeeding pull according to the judge’s decision.
In addition to the thrill of the Draft Horse Pull, there are several Divisions of Draft Horse contests including Halter, Hitch and Farm Shows. Draft Horse contests take place in the Bluegrass Bowl and are every bit as beautiful as you can imagine.

Youth Council members will be expected to complete a minimum number of volunteer hours that tie into the preparation and execution of the annual fair, develop programs and events that promote the State Fair Endowment as well as to challenge their leadership and organizational skills. Youth Council members will also have opportunities to be involved in promotional events that support the fair throughout the year.
The Youth Leadership Council is open to youth ages 15 through 21 and members are selected through an application and interview process. There are seven available seats with three seats going to State Fair scholarship winners. Once selected, members will participate in business meetings, planning meetings and serve on committees.
