State Fair’s Disney High School Musical Summer Celebration Now Offered Free with Gate Admission

State Fair Box Office Open Additional Hours

LEWISBURG, WV (07/28/2009)(readMedia)– The 85th Annual State Fair of West Virginia is just around the corner and box office hours have been extended. Customers may purchase tickets Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. or Saturday, August 1st and Saturday, August 8th from 9 am – 12 Noon.

Advance ticket sales for discounted gate admissions, carnival tickets, CVS Family Four Packs, and all BBT discount tickets close at the end of the business day on Monday, August 10, 2009.

Test Your Golf Skills in the First Annual Blue Ribbon Golf Skills Challenge

LEWISBURG, WV (07/25/2009)(readMedia)– Riverview Golf Range and The State Fair of West Virginia are pleased to announce additional details about the First Annual Blue Ribbon Golf Skills Challenge, scheduled from 2 pm – 6 pm, Monday, August 10th, at the golf range in Caldwell, WV. A $50 tax deductible entry fee is required with 100% of the entry fee going to support the State Fair scholarship endowment. Men and women can compete in long drive, closest to pin, flop shot over an obstacle, target shot and bunker shot. Winners will vie for rounds of golf at Lewisburg Elks Country Club, Twisted Gun Golf Course, Stonebridge Golf Club, Canaan Valley, Fountain Springs, Twin Falls and Pipestem State Parks, with additional rounds being added daily. State Fair and Farm Family Insurance sponsor Unique Hay Bale Contest

LEWISBURG, WV (07/23/2009)(readMedia)– Two companies who have a long-standing focus on agriculture, have joined forces to sponsor the new “Farm Family Farm Art Contest.” According to Sharon Roebuck, Farm Family, general agent, “We approached the State Fair in early 2009 in hopes of doing a promotional partnership. After a few phone calls and a meeting, we created this contest and are really excited about it.”

Entrants in the contest will use round or square bales of hay or straw and farm related props, to create a display that celebrates the 2009 State Fair theme, “Farm Fresh Fun.” First prize is $300.

“It is excellent advertising for the State Fair,” said Manager, Marlene Pierson-Jolliffe. “We are also relying heavily on the Internet and digital photography in an effort to encourage entries from throughout West Virginia and Virginia. Additionally, Farm Family will be showcasing their line of insurance products at the 2009 State Fair.”

Local Family wins 2009 Farming Heritage Award

LEWISBURG, WV (07/07/2009)(readMedia)– The fourth annual Farming Heritage Award will be presented to the Waldeck Farm – Pauline Waldeck, Family Matriarch, Cedarville, WV. Since 1877, five generations have continued the operation of this 500-plus acre beef cattle farm.

The award is sponsored by the State Fair of West Virginia and the West Virginia Farm Bureau and presented to a worthy family who has demonstrated a commitment to a rural lifestyle, been involved in their community, and served as role models to others in the state of West Virginia.

The Waldeck’s will receive their award in a ceremony to be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009, “Governor’s Day” at the State Fair of West Virginia. They will also be treated to a day at the Fair including overnight accommodations and will receive a Natural Stone award to display at their farm.

State Fair Box Office Now Open

LEWISBURG, WV (07/01/2009)(readMedia)– The on grounds State Fair box office is now open Monday through Friday from 10 am – 4 pm. Buyers can purchase tickets to concerts and take advantage of great discounts on gate or carnival tickets.

Discount tickets include:

Advance Gate Admissions – $7 (a savings of $3) for age 13 and older

Youth Gate Admissions – $5 (a savings of $2) for ages 6-13

Carnival Mega Pass – $25 (includes gate admission) and is valid on August 14th or August 17-21 (includes rides from 11 am to 11 pm)

Carnival Big Pass – $20 (includes gate admission) and is valid on August 14th or August 17-21 (includes rides from 11 am to 11 pm)

Carnival Ride Sheets – $10 (includes 15 tickets)

The box office is located on the south end of the administration building, just inside the main entrance.

Discount tickets (excluding carnival ticket sheets), are also available at BB T banks in most southern West Virginia locations and the following Valley Independent Pharmacy locations: Union, White Sulphur Springs, Rupert, Lewisburg-North, and Lewisburg South at Greenbrier Physicians.

CVS Family Four Packs are available at participating CVS locations and include four gate admissions, four food coupons, and two sheets of carnival ride tickets for $50.
