State Fair Posts Applications for Home Arts & Gardens and Livestock Online

 

LEWISBURG, WV (05/27/2010)(readMedia)– For decades, families have planned and carefully grown or prepared their “blue ribbon” exhibits for thousands to view. The tradition of growing/making your goods for judging during the Fair is a wonderful learning experience for the entire family, and the State Fair of West Virginia is a great place to share ideas and showcase the best from the family farm!

Changes have been made that will affect how how items can be entered for “Genuine Homegrown Fun”. Home Arts and Garden exhibitors as well as Livestock and Equine exhibitors will need to visit the state fair web site for forms and exhibitor guides. There are two options for entering your items; paper entry (find link on website to download and print) or online (will be made available by June 11, 2010).

The Home Arts and Garden link as well as the Livestock and Equine link can be found under the Fair Menu located on the right side of the www.statefairofwv.com webpage. Should an interested exhibitor not have access to the internet, please phone 304-645-1090 and we will be happy to mail the appropriate information.

Coloring Contest Deadline Extended

 

LEWISBURG, WV (05/27/2010)(readMedia)– The 2010 State Fair is set for August 13-21 and celebrates agriculture with its “Genuine Homegrown Fun” theme. The State Fair and Smart 529 are looking to West Virginia students enrolled in Kindergarten through Third grade to color a garden scene complete with fruits and vegetables and give their garden a name!

Prizes will be awarded for each grade; Kindergarten through Third and will be judged on the Name, design, creativity and coloring.

Grand Prize: IPOD Nano, $50, and 4 State Fair gate admission tickets

First Prize: $25 cash, 4 State Fair gate admission tickets and First Prize Ribbon

Second Prize: $15 cash, 2 State Fair gate admission tickets and Second Prize Ribbon

State Fair of WV & WVU Extension High Tunnel Greenhouse Partnership

 

LEWISBURG, WV (05/08/2010)(readMedia)– The State Fair of West Virginia and WVU Extension service have partnered on a project which is resulting in a high tunnel greenhouse being constructed on the State Fairgrounds property in Fairlea, WV. The High Tunnel construction will be Tuesday the 11th from 9 am to 4 pm. Residents are invited to participate and learn more about the construction of the high tunnel greenhouses. WVU Extension will be offering advice and information. The greenhouse will be used by WVU Extension, Greenbrier East FFA, and as a live exhibit for the State Fair of West Virginia with the focus being on sustainable agriculture and locally grown products.
