“Fun First” On the Carnival Midway at the State Fair

LEWISBURG, WV (07/28/2010)(readMedia)– Join us for our 2010 State Fair Endowment fundraiser and be the first to experience the thrill of the Carnival Midway, sample some great fair food and support youth scholarships all at the same time!

Fun First is scheduled from 6 pm – 8 pm on Thursday, August 12th and donors will enjoy rides on the midway, a coupon for a casual cocktail reception and 2 food coupons that can be exchanged at a designated food concession on the carnival midway for a drink, cotton candy, popcorn, or corn dog!

Tickets for Fun First are $50 and can be purchased at the State Fair Administration main office from 9-3 daily or on the day/evening of the event beginning at 4 pm at the Information booth located just inside the fairgrounds as you enter via the pedestrian bridge. Parking will be in the bridge ticket booth asphalt parking lot.

According to State Manager, Marlene Jolliffe, “The State Fair endowment was created in 2007 and is to provide long term support in the areas of youth scholarships and career advancement initiatives, youth educational enrichment programs, and agricultural premiums.”

The mission of the State Fair of West Virginia is to produce a quality fair committed to the traditions of agriculture, family entertainment, and education, and to develop non-fair events that utilize the existing facilities, that create opportunities for growth, and that benefit the community served by the facility.

The 86th Annual State Fair of West Virginia opens Friday, August 13, 2010 and runs through Saturday, August 21, 2010.

State Fair Box Office Hours During PGA

 

LEWISBURG, WV (07/21/2010)(readMedia)– The State Fair Administration offices and Box Office will maintain normal business hours during the upcoming PGA tournament. Anyone wishing to purchase tickets or visit the office on business may access the fairground through the Rt. 219 North livestock gate.

The State Fair box office is open Monday through Friday from 9 am – 4 pm, and is located on the south end of the administration building. . Advance discounts include:

Adult (ages 13 and older) Gate Admissions – $8

Youth (ages 6-13) Gate Admissions – $6

Children (ages 5 and younger) Gate Admissions – FREE

Carnival Mega Pass (includes Gate Admission) – $25/unlimited carnival rides for 12 hours (11 am – 11 pm) available ONLY for Friday, Aug 13 Monday, Aug 16 thru Friday, Aug 20.

Carnival Big Pass (includes Gate Admission) – $20/unlimited carnival rides for 6 hours (11 am – 5 pm) available ONLY for Friday, Aug 13 Monday, Aug 16 thru Friday, Aug 20.

Carnival Ticket Sheets – $10 (includes 15 tickets)

Discount tickets (excluding carnival ticket sheets), are also available at BBT banks in most southern West Virginia locations and the following Valley Independent Pharmacy locations: Union, White Sulphur Springs, Rupert, Lewisburg-North, and Lewisburg South at Greenbrier Physicians.

2010 State Fair Limited Edition Collectible Baskets On Sale

 

LEWISBURG, WV (07/11/2010)(readMedia)– The 12th Edition Collector Basket commemorating the 86th annual state fair will be for sale beginning July 15. The “Mail” basket is adorned with a commemorative brass tag, “Cottage” shoestring weave featuring a red/white/blue Flag Motif Theme, navy/star fabric liner, and plastic protector. The basket measures 8″x5″x5½” and is 100% custom made in the U.S.A. You may register your basket online for a lifetime warranty.

Butler Farms of Inwood Named 2010 Farming Heritage Award Winner

 

LEWISBURG, WV (07/01/2010)(readMedia)– The Butler Farm and patriarch/matriarch Bill and JoAnn Butler of Inwood, WV, have been selected as the 2010 Farming Heritage Award recipient. The award is sponsored by the State Fair of West Virginia and the West Virginia Farm Bureau and presented to a worthy family who has demonstrated a commitment to a rural lifestyle, been involved in their community, and served as role models to others in the state of West Virginia.

Four generations of the Butler Family have toiled the fields and orchards of the 1,500 acre Apple/Beef Cattle Farm and Sportsman Hunting Preserve located in Southern Berkeley County. Currently Bill Butler and son Todd Butler care for this land entrusted to them.Their beautiful farm is seen by many folks as a quiet oasis and a living history of a farm family that models the characteristics of what the Farming Heritage Award is all about. The farm appears pristine with its original farmhouse, barns and cattle gates . Yet, it is modern in its operational endeavors. The well maintained farmhouse, fences and buildings with beautiful fields and orchards make a bold statement that the Butler Family is dedicated to farming and are maintaining the farm for generations to come.

The Butler Family has a legacy of community service, being a role model in their involvement in Berkeley County Farm Bureau, 4-H, FFA, Lion’s, Fairs and Festivals, WVU Extension Service, their church and their community.

The Butler Family will participate in the Heritage Award Ceremony held on Thursday, August 19, “Governor’s Day” at the State Fair. Their award will be presented by State Fair President John Wilson and West Virginia Farm Bureau President Charles Wilfong. The Honorable Governor Joe Manchin, III and the Honorable Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass will address the group and participate in the awards ceremony. Also included in the award package is a day at the Fair including overnight accommodations, free admission, and preferred parking, as well as an engraved Natural Stone award for indoor or outdoor display.

State Fair Entry Deadlines Nearing

 

LEWISBURG, WV (07/01/2010)(readMedia)– The 2010 State Fair of West Virginia is scheduled August 13-21 and thousands of exhibits and animals are entered for competition on an annual basis. Please note that important entry deadlines are nearing for all 2010 competitions. The deadline for paper entries for all livestock and home arts competitions is the close of the business day on Friday, July 9, 2010. Online entries for livestock and home arts and garden competitions may be made until the close of business Friday, July 16, 2010. The first entry deadline for the State Fair Horse Show is Friday, July 22nd, 2010. Entries made after that date will be considered a Post Entry and will be assessed a $10 per horse post entry penalty.
