Other concerts include free shows featuring Phil Dirt Presents Surf’s Up a Tribute to the Beach Boys on Sunday, August 16, the Bellamy Brothers on Monday, August 17 and the Marshall Tucker Band on Wednesday, August 19.
Tickets for The Roots and Boots Tour, as well as the Buckin’B Bull Ride with Craig Wayne Boyd will go on sale at 10 am on Friday, April 3. The remaining shows will be free with a paid gate admission.
“The 91st Annual State Fair of West Virginia is quickly approaching and we are excited to announce more acts to our 2015 concert series,” State Fair CEO Kelly Collins stated. “Last year, we started the tradition of ‘Twilight Harness Racing’ and are looking forward to continuing it again this year before the Bellamy Brother and the Marshall Tucker Band concerts.”
Friday, August 21, 2015 – 8 pm, The Roots Boots Tour – A show filled with stories songs, getting back to the roots of their music featuring Aaron Tippin, Joe Diffie and Sammy Kershaw.
AARON TIPPIN – Tippin has crusaded for the working man and woman since he ripped country music wide open with his uncompromising single “You’ve Got To Stand For Something.” His voice continued to ring loud and clear with such hits as “I Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way”, “There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong With The Radio”, That’s As Close As I’ll Get To Loving You,” “My Blue Angel” and “Kiss This”. Five of his albums are certified “Gold” and a sixth CD-Read Between The Lines-stands at the “Platinum” level. Tippin’s honest lyrics and direct, impassioned vocals have built a large and devoted audience.
JOE DIFFIE – With the release of Jason Aldean’s hit “1994” earlier this year that name-checked many of Joe Diffie’s twelve Number One hits, the legendary singer found himself squarely back in the hearts and minds of country fans. The multi-platinum-selling artist who dominated the charts during a hot streak in the ’90’s may have been absent from the radio charts for the past few years, but Joe-Joe-Joe Diffie has never slowed down – writing, touring and recording a myriad of projects including his critically acclaimed 2010 bluegrass album “Homecoming,” and his recent “Roots And Boots” acoustic tour and collaborative CD “All In The Same Boat,” with fellow hitmakers Sammy Kershaw and Aaron Tippin. And now he’s back at it again, riding shotgun with hick-hop sensations the Jawga Boyz on a brand
new single, “Girl Ridin’ Shotgun,” which was recently released to country radio.
SAMMY KERSHAW – In the course of breaking into the ranks of stardom in country music, Sammy Kershaw has made contributions to more than just the charts. His platinum albums were propelled into the records books by hits such as “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful,” “I Can’t Reach Her Anymore,” “National Working Woman’s Holiday,” “Love Of My Life,” “Cadillac Style,” “Don’t Go Near The Water,” “Haunted Heart,”…and many other milestones.
Saturday, August 22 – 7pm, Buckin’ B’ Bull Ride and Craig Wayne Boyd – Buckin’ B Cattle Company brings it’s hard-driving, exciting Bull Riding event back to the fair and riders will once again compete for points in their quest to win the SEBRA (Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association) National Finals. Buckin’ B Cattle Company, was formed by Waynesburg, PA, native and award-winning bull rider Matt DeJohn, who has won the SEBRA Producer of the Year award in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. Texas-born and raised country singer and multi-instrumentalist Craig Wayne Boyd, who came to the public’s attention when he was a contestant, and the eventual winner, on the seventh season of the television show The Voice in 2014, showed an affinity for music even as a child. Growing up in
the Dallas, Texas suburb of Mesquite, he was drawn to gospel and country, and was active in his church choir, eventually becoming its director. He moved to Nashville to try for his dream of a career in the music business in the early 2000s, and soon had a publishing deal with EMI. Things looked promising. Yet Boyd, after ten years of songwriting, local gigs, national support touring, and trying everything he could to further that dream in Nashville, was on the verge of quitting music because of financial and other pressures. All that changed when he auditioned for the seventh season of The Voice. Ending up on Blake Shelton’s team, Boyd’s singing voice, playing, and easy musical versatility made him a fan favorite, and eventually made him the overall winner.
“With an already strong lineup, we still have a few additional announcements to make in late April,” Collins added.

Alabama to Headline 2015 State Fair of West Virginia Concert Series
LEWISBURG, WV (12/01/2014)(readMedia)– State Fair officials have announced that Alabama will kick off the 91st Annual State Fair of West Virginia concert series on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 8 pm.
Tickets for this show will go on sale Friday, December 5, 2014 at 10 am.
“We are thrilled to have country music legends Alabama as the opening act for the 2015 State Fair of West Virginia,” State Fair Operations Manager Kelly Collins stated. “Tickets for this show are going on sale just in time for Christmas making it a great present for loved ones. So far the upcoming Fair is shaping up to be great one and we cannot wait to make more announcements in the New Year.”
It’s been 40 years since a trio of young cousins left Fort Payne, Alabama, to spend the summer playing in a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina bar called The Bowery. It took Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook six long years of tip jars and word of mouth to earn the major label deal they’d been dreaming of, but then seemingly no time at all to change the face of country music.
ALABAMA is the band that changed everything. They have had 43 #1 singles including 21 #1 singles in a row, a record that will probably never be equaled in any genre. They brought youthful energy, sex appeal and a rocking edge that broadened country’s audience and opened the door to self-contained bands from then on, and they undertook a journey that led, 73 million albums later, to the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Of the early days and their humble beginnings, Jeff says, “I don’t think we thought too far ahead. We were more concerned with paying our bills at the end of the week playing music.”
The Bowery was a chance to get established outside their home turf, where they’d played a nearby theme park, opening for national acts like Bobby Bare.
“We believed we had something pretty special from a vocal standpoint,” says Teddy, “and we were looking for the opportunity to prove it. There were a lot of times when we wondered whether we might be better off going back home and getting jobs, but we just kept rehearsing and writing songs, trying to get better and believing we could do it.”
“I went to see them at The Bowery,” legendary producer, Harold Shedd says, “and the sound that these three guys could create together was just really something. I saw the crowd reacting to music they’d never heard before as though they had. They were doing some covers, but a lot of the ALABAMA show at the time was original material, including stuff that wound up on the first three albums we did together.”
The band was revolutionary in more than one sense.
“We were renegades in sneakers and T-shirts,” says Teddy. “We had long hair and played loud and some of the country folks resisted us for a while. But then of course they did accept us and then after that, our success made it lots easier for other bands to try it in country music.”
The fact that some of the heirs of that legacy–Eli Young Band, Rascal Flatts and Florida Georgia Line–were among the stars paying tribute on Alabama Friends, their most recent release, is part of their legacy as surely as the awards and plaudits they’ve earned through the years. And those, of course, have been legion. They include more than 150 major industry nods, including two Grammys, the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian award, Entertainer of the Year awards three times from the CMA and five times from the ACM, as well as the latter’s Artist of the Decade award. They earned 21 Gold ®, Platinum ® and Multi-Platinum ® albums and were named the RIAA’s Country Group of the Century.
But awards are only a part of a legacy that finds its most important home in the hearts of listeners everywhere. Some of those are superstars in other genres, as Randy found out not long ago.
“I was part of a benefit concert at the Ryman,” he says, “and I look over there’s Jon Bon Jovi. He walked over and said hello and it turns out he likes our music.”
Many more, of course, are everyday country fans.
“A lot of fans will start a conversation with, ‘I don’t want to bother you,'” says Jeff, “but what they don’t understand is that everything that’s happened to us, every one of those awards, happened because we’ve been accepted and supported by our fans.”
Not long ago, Teddy was witness to a scene that shows that their legacy of song remains as fresh as it was when that streak in the ’80s kicked it all off.
“I was in Nashville,” he says, “walking by this club full of young people–I’m talking 18 or 20. The band started playing ‘Dixieland Delight’ and everybody in the place started singing and sang all the way through. I had to smile at the longevity of the songs. Maybe some of those kids didn’t even know who ALABAMA was, but they knew the music, and so I think that’s a tribute to the fact that we spent a career putting out good songs that stand the test of time.”
